Whit Montague, CFM, is the Dam Safety/Floodplain Section Engineering Supervisor. She works directly with local governments, other state and federal agencies and the public on floodplain management. Ms. Montague works with local Arkansas communities to identify and implement strategies that support floodplain management while mitigating risk from flood events for Arkansas residents. She coordinates regularly with state and federal agencies about flood related issues and provides post-disaster assistance during presidential declared disasters.
As Dam Safety Engineering Supervisor, she guides the regulation and supervision of non-federal dams for the health, safety, welfare, and economic well-being of the citizens of Arkansas. Regulation assures dams are both properly designed and constructed and assures continued maintenance and monitoring. The Dam Safety Section currently regulates 413 dams, ensuring inspections are conducted, technical outreach and education is provided to dam owners, and partnering with other state and federal agencies to protect life and property.
A civil engineer, Whit is an experienced environmental professional with a thirty-year background in water quality and quantity management, low impact design, and environmental nonprofit management. Her focus is on protection of Arkansas's natural resources and the communities that depend upon them. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, she now lives in Little Rock with her husband David, their daughter Riley and Henry and Ethan, their two rescue dogs.
