This course will familiarize the registrant with the Arkansas State Specific Examination. We will discuss the exam format and subject matter, including some minor discussion on ways to prepare for the exam. Students will gain an understanding of the applicable Arkansas Statutes regarding surveying, the Arkansas State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors Board Rules, as well as the Arkansas Standards of Practice for Property Boundary Surveys & Plats (Minimum Standards). We will spend some time discussing the procedures used during the General Land Office surveys. The majority of the class will be spent learning the rules for applying coordinate geometry to Arkansas resurveys and working through practice problems.
Some subjects covered by the Arkansas State Specific Examination will not be covered during this course due to time constraints. However, each registrant will be provided with pertinent handouts concerning those subjects. This course is not an introduction to the topics. Participants should have some knowledge of the subjects.

Jeremy is an experienced professional with extensive experience managing survey teams in multiple offices and in multiple states. As a Vice President of Survey at Crafton Tull & Associates, he has played a pivotal role in overseeing operations, mentoring professionals, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. A past president of the Arkansas Society of Professional Surveyors, Jeremy is actively engaged in shaping the future of the profession through education and leadership, including serving as Vice-Chairperson on the University of Arkansas Community College Survey Advisory Committee. Holding multiple state licenses and Certified Federal Surveyor credentials, he brings a wealth of expertise in both technical and administrative aspects of surveying. He is married to Mindi, and they have a 15-year-old son, Tucker. Jeremy also enjoys playing guitar on his church’s worship team, where the congregation is gracious enough to keep him around despite his musical talents. He is eager to serve as Secretary-Treasurer and is committed to helping the ASPS board operate efficiently and effectively in promoting ASPS and the surveying profession.
James Temple started his surveying career in 1976 working as a rodman on a survey crew in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the late 70’s and early 80’s he attended the University of Arkansas where he had the pleasure of studying Land Surveying under Dr. Elgin and Dr. Knowles. He obtained his first license in Arkansas in 1984 and has since gone on to become licensed in a total of 15 states, two of which are non-Public Land Survey States. He became a Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS) in 2010. Throughout his career he has held every survey position from rodman on up to his current position as Vice-President of Energy Services at Crafton Tull’s Conway office where he is concentrating on providing training to the young surveyors coming up through the ranks. He is currently a member of ASPS, OSLS and TSPS.
